I am currently reading a book on Great Australian Women and as I am a citizen of this amazing country I wanted to learn more about these women as I have had and still do have male mentors it is refreshing to read about these amazing women. George Hegel, (1770 - 1831) a Professor of Philosophy at Berlin University, insisted that women's limited mental capacity equipped them only for housework and child-rearing. Closer to home Professor William Balls-Headley, (gotta love the name) (1841 - 1918) Professor of Obstetrics at Sydney University, predicted that if young women were allowed to undertake tertiary education "the energy needed by the uterus would be diverted to the brain, rendering them infertile". |
